Sean King Addresses Taiwan Industrial Mission

Park Strategies Vice President Sean King addressed an inbound industrial trade mission from Taiwan on Monday, June 4th. King made his remarks at the Taipei Economic & Cultural Representative Office in New York. The mission, led by Chih-Peng Huang, Director General of the Bureau of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), included vice presidents from four leading state-owned companies, namely Taiwan Power, Chinese Petroleum, China Steel and Taiwan s Aerospace and Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC).

King, who spoke right after Taiwan-born New York City Council Member John Liu, said that Park Strategies Managing Director Alfonse D Amato remains committed to the Taiwan market. King listed some of the challenges to doing business in Taiwan, such as last year s debilitating credit crunch, but also noted that Taiwan boasts a resilient, savvy customer base with a general preference for all things American. He also said that nothing tells the tale of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait better than the fact that on the 18th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre in Beijing, Taiwan s main TAIEX share index hit a seven-year high (8,294.79 points).

In closing, King said if that President Bush s Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) is renewed this summer, and if Taiwan takes the necessary steps to reintegrate itself into the global supply chain (i.e. it finds a way to normalize at least outbound economic relations with Mainland China), Park Strategies will enthusiastically back a U.S.-Taiwan Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
